DR DAVID LAURENCE BRASH
15/05/48 - 23/11/2017
The David Laurence Scholarship was created created in honour of my late father, Dr David Laurence "Larry" Brash.
Larry was born on the 15th May 1948 in Glasgow, Scotland, and emigrated to Australia with his family in 1959.
His work for over 30 years as an experienced and well-respected psychiatrist had a profound impact on his community. A champion for mental health, Larry is responsible for improving the quality of life of countless patients. He was a pioneer for his work with transgender patients, and was also noted for his work with war veterans, and people living with difficult, chronic psychiatric illness.
Throughout his life, Larry was a great fan of classical music, amassing a vast collection of recordings and regularly attending concerts. He was particularly enthusiastic about the works of Bach and Beethoven.
Larry passed away quite suddenly from pancreatic cancer on the 23rd of November, 2017.
The David Laurence Scholarship continues his legacy as a supporter of the arts and empowering individuals to lead full and happy lives, with a year of singing lessons free of cost.
